Abstract

With the support of the Chamber of Commerce of Turin, the Cultural Observatory of Piedmont conducted a study on the economic impact of the Eurovision Song Contest, an international event that took place in Turin from May 9 to May 14, 2022.

Our role

Using the Economic Impact Analysis methodology, OCP researchers estimated the direct, indirect, and induced economic impacts generated by the Eurovision Song Contest in the Turin area.

It is estimated that the event attracted over 55,000 tourists to the city, who, based on data collected through a dedicated survey, spent a total of over 11 million euros in the region. In addition to this direct impact, there are indirect and induced effects estimated at 11.8 million euros.

The research also reconstructed the media impact of the event: in Italy alone, over 9,000 articles were published (1,492 in print and 7,801 online), with an estimated advertising value equivalent to 66 million euros for the image of Turin.

The results of the research were presented on Monday, January 30, 2023.
